In July of 2008, members of FBC
and eight other churches attended a medical mission trip to
Brazil. The team traveled on the Taruma, Negro, Madeira,
Ariaria, Cunuma, and Mamia
rivers. The team went to four Mundurucu villages. These were Mamia, Kuata,
Aru, and Paraw. The team was invited into Terra Preta village next year.
Pastor Brien baptized 6 people in Mamia and 2 people accepted Christ in Parawa.
The
medical team treated at least 361 patients and the dental team treated 84
patients with 149 extractions. The optical team fitted 118 glasses and
gave cases to each person. Two wheelchairs were presented in Parawa.
The
construction team built a new entry and a covered porch for Mama Ester in Kuata
, built a ramp for a girl with a new wheelchair in Parawa, and drilled a well
but was unsuccessful at 80 feet in Aru.
The
VBS team had 241 children come to sessions with some adults attending.
More than 800 pictures of families and kids were printed so individuals could
have a permanent remembrance of their family. One hundred dresses were
given to kids and around 300 pounds of clothes were given away.
The
team gave out 79 packets of fishing supplies to men, 66 sewing kits to women,
and 8 soccer balls to village chiefs for the young adults. Many
educational supplies like crayons and craft items were also left for latter use.
