True Christianity is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Accepting Jesus as your personal Savior means placing your own personal faith and trust in Him. No one is saved by the faith of others. The only way to be saved is to personally accept Jesus as your Savior, trusting His death as the payment for your sins, and His resurrection as your guarantee of eternal life (John 3:16). Is Jesus personally your Savior? To become a Christian, you need to know these basic facts from the Bible:
John 3:16

God loves you. God loved you so much that He sent His son to die for your sins.

Romans 3:10

You are a sinner. Sin is choosing to do your own thing as opposed to being obedient to God. All persons are sinners in that they disobey God.

Romans 3:23

Sin separates you from God. God is Holy and sin forms a barrier between you and God.

Romans 4:4-5
You can't save yourself. There's nothing you can do in terms of deeds to bridge the gap between you and God. You can't earn God's salvation.

Romans 5:8

God sent His Son Jesus to remove the sin barrier. Only Jesus Christ can bridge the gap between you and God.  Jesus Christ, God's only Son, died on the cross and removed the sin barrier between you and God. Jesus died for your sins, taking your punishment on Himself. God did for you in Jesus Christ what you couldn't do for yourself.

John 14:6; Romans 10:9-10

You can receive Jesus Christ through faith. Faith is trusting in what Jesus has done for you. Faith also involves repentance, which is to  willingly turn away from sin.

Through prayer you can accept  Jesus Christ. Admit to God that you are a sinner. Ask God to help you turn away from your sinfulness. Ask Him to forgive your sins. Invite Jesus into your life as your Lord and Savior. Thank Him for saving you and commit your life to Him.

Accepting Christ is only the beginning to a new life with purpose and meaning. After accepting Him, be obedient by following Christ in baptism  by uniting with a church.
