“Arms Around Arkadelphia” is a ministry project
of First Baptist Church of
Arkadelphia to sponsor an ongoing series of
events to embrace the Arkadelphia community with the love of Christ. Projects
may be service projects, ministry efforts, or simply
acts of kindness and caring toward the residents of Arkadelphia.
The first Arms
Around Arkadelphia project, in July 2004, was the renovation of four homes of
low income residents in the city, and involved about 150 of our members. The
next project, on October 2, was the
delivery of smoke alarm batteries to every household in the city in conjunction
with the start of National Fire Prevention Week.
In 2005, we
completed repair and renovation projects for 7 homeowners in need, and again
involved well over 100 church members. Many of the homeowners are widowed, and
some have special needs due to disability and health problems.
For 2006, we had two work sessions, May
19-20 and June 19-23. About 70 members of FBCA participated on work teams,
and another 40-50 provided food, prayer support, and financial assistance.
We completed projects for six homeowners, all of whom had some kind of
special need because of age or health issues. Projects ranged from a simple
front porch addition to a complete exterior renovation.
In 2007, we completed
projects for six homeowners. Again each of these homeowners had
special needs due to age or health issues. Projects ranged from
installation of a shower to a complete exterior and interior renovation.
The church family continues in its enthusiastic support of this ministry.
In 2008, we completed projects on the weekend of May 16-17, and we will be
working on projects for five homeowners on the week of June 16-20.
